Rimpact tire inserts for CX and Gravel -mitigate punctures, protect rims and run at lower pressure!

Rimpact is a brand that has been making tire inserts for mountain bikes. Now they have introduced a product for Cyclocross and Gravel riding, made out of a dual-density polyethylene foam.
What are the benefits of using their tire insert?
Rimpact claim that their inserts

  • Provide tire support to allow for pressures similar to what is possible with tubular tires, meaning you can run them at lower pressures, what always has been a benefit of tubulars in CX racing.
  • Protect the tires from snakebites.
  • Mitigate most rim damage under hard impact.
  • Enable to run a flat tire to make it to the finish or repair stop, within reason.
  • Dampen vibrations to reduce fatigue and add confidence.

Weight is the obvious trade-off, each insert weights around 55 grams. You could argue, however, that this trade-off certainly could be worth it in many use cases, as 55g is less then the difference between a butyl inner tube and a lightweight latex or TPU tube. Oh, and since I haven’t mentioned this explicitely before, the insert of course can be only used with tubeless clinchers.

Other points to mention: The inserts are easy to install, do not absorb sealant due to their closed surface. They require Rimpacts modified tubeless valves. In regards to durability, they should be able to outlast tires. The tires are only sold in pairs.
