Tubolito inner tubes

Orange, more puncture resistant, lighter, smoother ride – at a price!

Tubolitos were developed by two engineers, Christian Lembacher and Akos Kertesz, who came across the material used for Tubolitos (a polyurethane) when researching high-tech membranes for mobile phone loudspeakers (which need to be very light and robust).

One of their main benefit is reduced weight. For example an S-Tubo 29er tube,  weighs just 45 grams, compared to more than 200 grams for a standard butyl tube of the same size. The standard Tubo tube model in the same size weighs 85 grams. For road tubes, the weight is also over have less than that of standard tubes, means with Tubolitos on both front and back installed, a total of around 100g savings can be realized.

 Another advantage of the Tubolito tubes is the much smaller packing size. The 22 grams S-Tubo is around 1/4 the size of a standard tube, so it can be tucked away neatly.

Tubolito tubes come in many different sizes and with different valve lengths (attention: valve core is glued in and cannot be removed (important if choosing what type of valve extender to use for deep section wheels)
The tubes can be fixed with the Tubo-Flix-Kit from Tubolito, albeit some users say the patches don’t last long.
Tubolitos can be used with certain sealants. The following are certified: Oko Puncture free Bike Repair Spray: Nigrin Reifendicht; Vittoria Pitstop Super Magnum; Tip Top Pannenspray; Güp Kwiki.

Tubolitos have a similar characteristics concerning air retention as rubber tubes.

In addition to their regular tubes, they also have S-Tubos: The „S“ stands for spare, referring to the ideal spare tube. Due to reduced thickness S-Tubos are not only extremely light but also very small. Furthermore S-Tubo-MTBs do have a removable valve so they do fit in every pocket, how small it may be.

Tubolitos are produced in Europe and their production uses far less water and energy than traditional tubes made from Butyl.
