Archer Components D1x Trail with Micro-Adjust Remote
Updates Jan 2021 and Jan 2022 to include new product additions
The D1x Trail adds electronic shifting to any rear derailleur.
At the heart of the D1x is a servo that pulls a small length of shifter cable to move your derailleur to get your chain into each gear on the cassette.
You shift by pressing the buttons on a remote that you attach to your handle bars.
Here is the picture of the remote:
The D1x is fully programmable. So instead of a ratchet mechanism in your mechanical shifter, you have the ability to set the D1x to work with any number of gears, and on any derailleur-cassette combination.
You setup the D1x using a configuration app on your smart phone or tablet.
The Micro-Adjust Remote let’s you fine tune each gear from the riding position without your phone. Simply engage micro-adjust and use the shift buttons to adjust individual gears on the fly.
When the system senses that your shifter battery is critically low it will move into the gear you select in the app as your GMHG and leave you there while it powers down. This is meant to be a mid-cassette gear that you can use to safely pedal home.
Benefits over cabled shifting are that similar to electronic shifting from Shimano or Sram, means easy set up (especially compared to internal routing), no issues due to cable stretch (the short piece of cable obviously does not stretch much).
In addition, the absolute flexibility and adjustability of this system also means that it has great potential for use in any non-standard bike set-up, such as recumbents, or hand cycles.
Archer Components claim that their latest version is 1.5x faster with 2.5x the battery life than before.

UPDATE Jan 2021:
Archer Components just announced that they are launching a new wireless shifting system for dropbar bikes, to join Archer’s existing flatbar mountain bike system.
Archer’s new Drop Bar Remote works with the same chainstay-mounted shifting unit, the D1x Trail Shifter, as Archer’s mountain bike shift system. The remote attaches to TRP’s Hylex RS brake lever, to allow shifting from the brake hoods. TRP’s Hylex RS is a hydraulic road brake system originally designed for singlespeed bikes. (TRP also offers a mount to attach Shimano Di2 shift buttons to its levers).
Riders who already have Archer’s D1x flat bar system can buy the new road remote separately if they want to switch to a dropbar bike. Since the system can be adjusted to work with nearly any rear derailleur and number of gears, it allows riders to, for example, use mountain bike rear derailleurs and cassettes to add very low gears to dropbar bikes.
Shift indexing can be adjusted from the lever with use of a small, third button below the shift buttons.
A mobile app also allows users to adjust indexing and customize shifting to allow multiple shifts, for example. Using the app riders also can set a “Get Me Home Gear” that the shifter will go to when if the battery is about to die. The remote’s battery can be charged on the bike with a standard USB cable. The system’s batteries are said to provide 80 hours of runtime in normal mode and up to 150 hours in low power mode before recharging is necessary.
The full ARCHER D1x Trail Shifter with DBR Remote System is available for pre-sale, retailing for $399. Availability is expected in February. The system includes a special rubber brake hood for the TRP levers and is available with black, gray or red buttons. The DBR Remote will be available separately for $119.
UPDATE Feb 2022:
1) If you like crisper shifting, there is now a sprinter battery avialable for about a 50% increase in shift speed, albeit shorter battery life. The battery costs USD 49.99, and if bought as part of the whole system, there is a USD 20 surcharge should you opt for the faster shifting.2) Archer Components introduced a new Multi Function Remote (MFR) line of drop-bar offerings means the D1x electronic shifting conversion systems can now work on all three of the major bike categories and offers a ripe opportunity for bike hackers to build their own remotes. The MFR system includes a choice of satellite button configurations, to be mounted wherever the rider prefers on virtually any handlebar. The full ARCHER Multi Function Remote System starts at $369 for the single strand shift button (2) and the standard batteries, but you can add the Sprint batteries and run a double strand of shift buttons (4) for $429 all versions are available. If you already have a D1x Trail shifter, you can simply buy the MFR buttons ($89-$129).
