Bottle28 – never again fumble with your bottle!
Look ahead, not down! If you ever fumbled trying to put your bottle back in its cage (or taking it out), then this product might be of interest to you. A Bavarian company from Munich, that otherwise specialises in automotive exterior and interior design and product development, has developed this unique bottle/cage solution as a result of their innovation-focused Think Tank.
The bottle cage includes a cone-shaped and magnetic core, over which the bottle slides. The magnet secures the bottle fast without rattling, the bottle can be easily lifted off and most importantly simply dropped back without much precision, thanks to the cone shape and the magnet.
The bottle holds a surprisingly respectable 500ml of fluid, is BPA free, dishwasher safe and leak proof. No space is wasted in this bottle/cage combination: the cone is hollow and can fit tire levers, a CO2 cartridge, CO2 inflator and repair kit, or what else you might think of hiding inside. Tire levers are included when you buy the system.
There are attempts from other companies, such as Fidlock, to make a simple bottle/cage/frame interface using magnets, but this is so far the one that I would say is the easiest to use for anyone struggling to get bottles in and out. Drawbacks are the higher weight (163 gr for bottle and cage (not including repair kit) vs around 100-120g for a standard bottle / cage combination), and the smaller volume of the bottle (equal to a small regular bottle, but 180 ml less than most bottles). Considering the ease of the system, I would love to see a aero bottle version, that fits a TT bike. I have seen a number of accidents during long distance Triathlons when people tried to put their bottle back while in their aerobars. Right now the bottle is only available with their signature green cap, but a black cap will be released soon. Head to their website (link below), to find out more.
